School WASH Project in Uganda

Sanitation & Hygiene Project

This project was implemented in Barjobi Primary School in Otuke District in Northern Uganda in 2022. The school is one of the biggest primary schools in Otuke with as many as 1,429 pupils. Despite its amount of students, the school only had two functional 5-stance pit latrines. In addition, it was very challenging for the pupils to maintain good hygiene due to the lack of handwashing facilities. Under the new CSR programme, funded by Toshiba, the school could refurbish its sanitary

facilities, multiple handwashing facilities and provide skilled training on hygiene and sanitation. This training was facilitated by members of the CO2balance staff, alongside the Health Assistant of Barjobi Town Council and health teacher of Barjobi Primary School and focused on skilling the pupils with best practices of hygiene and sanitation within the school and back home. The students now have access to sufficient handwashing stations and liquid soap located throughout the school.
